Accept imperfection and keep a calm mindset

Imperfection is the norm in life. Just like our appearance, each of us may have some minor flaws. Maybe the nose isn’t straight enough, the eyes aren’t big enough, or the skin isn’t smooth enough. However, these so-called imperfections precisely make up the unique individuals that we are.

If we keep dwelling on these external imperfections, spending a great deal of time and energy trying to change them and even getting trapped in self-abasement and anxiety because of them, then we will miss out on many more important beauties in life.

The same goes for work. We may encounter various setbacks in our careers. A carefully prepared proposal might not be approved, the project we strived hard for could go to someone else, or we might make some silly mistakes at work.

During these moments, it’s easy for us to fall into self-doubt and depression. But if we can look at it from another perspective, every failure and imperfection is an opportunity for growth. The non-approval of a proposal may enable us to discover the blind spots in our thinking; the loss of a project might make us aware of our own incompetence, thus allowing us to make targeted improvements.

Mistakes are even more precious treasures as they remind us where we need to improve, enabling us to avoid the same problems in future work. By accepting the imperfections in work, we can face challenges more calmly instead of being crushed by pressure.

Learning to accept imperfections can better enable us to remain calm when facing changes in life. Life can’t always go along the tracks we have preset. Often, plans can’t keep up with changes.

However, if we can accept imperfections with a peaceful mindset, looking for hope in pain and digging for strength in difficulties, we will be able to move forward. Just like those people who lost everything in disasters but still managed to rebuild their lives with tenacity. They weren’t defeated by the huge imperfections but bloomed again like flowers of life on the ruins.

Keeping a calm mindset and accepting imperfections isn’t a passive compromise but a positive and upward life wisdom. It frees us from the shackles brought by the obsessive pursuit of an unattainable perfection, allowing us to have more energy to focus on and cherish the good things we already have around us.

When we learn to view ourselves, life, and the world with an inclusive heart, we will find that imperfection itself is also a kind of beauty. The imperfect world is also full of surprises and warmth everywhere, making our lives more abundant and profound.
